Camouflet Convector XL

Camouflet says the Convector XL needs little to no maintenance, but that regular cleaning keeps the flavour fresh and the airpath clear. The device comes apart into a handful of separate pieces, so cleaning is mostly a soak. The one instruction that matters more than the rest is drying: isopropyl gets trapped between the heater plates in the cap and must be flushed out before you heat it again.

Quick Cleaning (After Each Session)

1. Slide the Camo Cap off: It pulls straight off the end of the chamber, which is also how you load and unload.
2. Tip the chamber out: Empty the spent material and check nothing is caught around the screen at the base of the chamber.
3. Check the draw: If it has tightened, the chamber screen or the ceramic tube is loading up and is due a soak.

Deeper Cleaning (Every Few Sessions)

1. Disassemble it fully: Separate the Camo Cap, the chamber, the stem and the quad bore ceramic tube.
2. Soak in isopropyl for over 20 minutes: All the parts go in together. Camouflet asks for more than twenty minutes.
3. Rinse in hot water, especially the cap: Alcohol gets trapped between the heater plates inside the Camo Cap, so flush that part thoroughly with water.
4. Towel dry every piece: Dry each part before it goes back together.
5. Heat it empty to finish: With the chamber empty, gently heat the device to evaporate anything left, then blow air into the mouthpiece so it exits through the end of the cap.
6. Reassemble: Fit the o-rings onto the ceramic tube, twist the tube into the stem, then put the chamber and cap back on.

Care Tips for Better Results

• Never try to remove the heater plates. They are laser welded inside the Camo Cap.
• Do not force the cap on too tightly when loading, or it becomes hard to remove.
• Water on the tube o-rings makes the ceramic cooling tube much easier to install. New o-rings are firm and soften with use.
• Store it clean and dry. Camouflet warns that prolonged exposure to humidity can still cause rust despite the corrosion resistant alloys.
• The chamber screen pushes out from the stem side with the ceramic tube. Screens and o-rings are consumables and sold in packs.

The Convector XL suits someone who already likes torch heated devices and wants a bigger bowl and a purer convection path than a conduction tip gives. Because the heater sits above the herb rather than around it, material only vaporises while you are drawing, so you can take a hit, put it down and come back later with very little waste. That behaviour is what makes it a good fit for flavour chasers and for anyone who prefers analog devices that never need charging. The learning curve is the trade. There is no click and no indicator, so you judge heat by counting seconds and by how the draw tastes, and Camouflet's own advice is to start with a small load and a short heat until you have a feel for it. Overheating is possible, and the fix is simply to wait a few seconds since it will not vape until you pull on it. A torch is not in the box, and neither is a mouthpiece.
