Mighty

The original Mighty's cooling unit is a folded plastic air path sitting straight over a 0.25 g stainless filling chamber, and condensate builds on its underside long before the chamber looks dirty. Storz & Bickel's instructions for the 2014 model differ from the Plus on one point: a heated cooling unit comes apart more easily, because cooled condensate turns sticky.

1. Split it off the body: Nudge the cap lock up towards the mouthpiece, lift the cooling unit cap away, then unscrew the base from the Mighty with a 90 degree counterclockwise twist.

2. Strip the cap: Rock the mouthpiece out, tilting it as you pull, then lift away its seal ring. If the cap is going into alcohol, lift the cap lock off from one side first. The signet hologram on it is a sticker, and alcohol bleaches it and loosens the adhesive.

3. Clear the base: The filling chamber tool clips into the Mighty's housing. Use it to prise the large base seal ring free where its groove is notched, pull the small seal ring out, then press the coarse upper screen down and out of the base.

4. Soak briefly: Half an hour is the manufacturer's ceiling for cooling unit parts and the filling chamber screen in isopropyl, after which the plastics discolour and go brittle. Warm rinsing water is the gentler solvent listed alongside it. Rinse and dry fully.

5. Keep the accessories out of alcohol: The herb mill, filling aid and capsule magazine must not be soaked in isopropyl. They take the dishwasher or warm rinsing water.

6. Chamber and screens: Empty the chamber after each session and clear the screens with the supplied brush. Wipe the chamber itself with a barely moistened cotton swab, letting no alcohol run into the interior. This chamber has no ceramic coating, the scratch resistant surface S&B added on the Plus, so keep anything metal away.

7. Lower screen: Once it clogs, press it along the groove with the filling chamber tool until it bulges loose. Seat the replacement curved side upwards and flatten it into the groove.

8. Reassemble: Bin any part showing cracks, softening or discolouration. The small base seal ring must sit fully inside the cooling unit cap and be invisible, and the upper screen must sit in its groove, or plant particles reach the cooling unit and your lungs.

9. Body and charger: Never immerse the Mighty or its 12V power adapter. Switch off, unplug, and wipe the housing dry or with a slightly damp cloth. Let the alcohol smell clear before heating. Only the original adapter or the 12V car charger belongs in the barrel socket, since an unsuitable supply raises ERR 003.
