Tafee Flaske

Most of the cleaning on a Flaske happens away from the body. The ceramic pots, stem and mouthpieces come apart and can be soaked, while the machined power base unit only needs wiping. Tafee is specific about which parts tolerate alcohol, so it is worth following its split rather than dunking everything.

Quick Cleaning (After Each Session)

1. Empty the pot: Tip the spent material out of the ceramic oven pot once it has cooled.
2. Brush the pot: Use the ceramic pot brush from the maintenance kit to clear residue from the pot and its stainless steel screen.
3. Wipe the body: A clean soft fibre cloth on the outside of the power base unit is all it needs. Disconnect the charger first.

Deeper Cleaning (Every Few Sessions)

1. Take it apart: Detach the stem from the power base unit, then separate the ceramic pot and the mouthpiece from the stem.
2. Remove the gasket: Take the silicone gasket off the ceramic pot and put it somewhere safe. Without it refitted the pot will not seal in the stem and the device will not work.
3. Soak the pots and stem only: Immerse the ceramic pots and the stem in 70 to 90 percent isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. The stem can lie on its side with the lower pot housing submerged for up to 12 hours.
4. Wash the mouthpieces separately: Mouthpieces and silicone gaskets should not go in alcohol. Soak them in warm water with a mild dish detergent, then rinse for at least five minutes.
5. Rinse and dry completely: Rinse the pots and stem in warm water, dry with an absorbent cloth, and blow air through the stem so no water is left standing inside.

Care Tips for Better Results

• Never poke at the oven bay screen in the stem slot of the body. Tafee states damage to it is not covered by the warranty.
• Do not unscrew or disassemble the base of the stem.
• Pack pots to about three quarters of their volume. Overpacking is the usual cause of charred material and weak vapor.
• Do not boil accessories or leave them in hot water, since high temperatures can deform them.
