PAX 3 FAQs

Can I still use the PAX app with my PAX 3?

No. PAX now states there are no longer any PAX Labs apps available for use. The four presets, lip sensing and shake for battery stay on the device, but the custom fifth temperature, color themes, firmware updates and dynamic modes go with the app.

What were the PAX 3 dynamic modes?

Five profiles set through the app: Standard, Boost, Efficiency, Flavor and Stealth. They changed how hard the lip sensor pushed the oven, how fast it cooled and how long before motion standby, which Boost stretched to a minute and Stealth cut to 15 seconds.

Why does the PAX 3 vibrate?

A single buzz means the oven is at temperature, and the petals stop pulsing purple and turn green. The lip sensor then lifts the oven temperature while it senses your mouth, and cools about 20 seconds after it stops.

How much does the half pack oven lid hold?

PAX quotes 0.17 to 0.25 grams of ground material with the deeper half pack lid fitted. It ships only in the Complete Kit, though lids, screens, mouthpieces and chargers are cross compatible across the PAX 2, 3 and Plus.

What should I avoid with the PAX 3 concentrate insert?

Load it with no flower in the oven, keep concentrate out of the two tubes inside the chamber, and use 10 to 20 milligrams on a high setting. Its lid and o-ring wear out, and PAX sells both as a replacement pack.

Is the PAX 3 still worth buying over the PAX Plus?

PAX has discontinued the PAX 3, so new stock comes from retailers. The PAX Plus shares the oven and accessories but puts those profiles on the device as Experience Modes, so nothing depends on a phone.

What does the PAX 3 ten year warranty cover?

Ten years from retail purchase, for the original purchaser only, and not transferable with a secondhand device. Accessories, the concentrate adaptor, damage from concentrates or waxes and normal battery wear all sit outside it.

PAX 3 Cleaning & Maintenance

The PAX 3 draws vapor from its stainless steel oven up through a narrow internal tube to the silicone mouthpiece, and that tube is where most of the residue collects. Conduction also bakes material against the oven walls and the screen at the base of the chamber, so both discolor quickly even when the oven looks empty.

  1. Brush out while warm: Tip the spent load out after a session and sweep the oven and the underside of the oven lid with the included wire brush while the device is still warm. Residue lifts much more easily then than once it has cooled and set.

  2. Lift the mouthpiece: Slide a fingernail or the multi-tool under the lip of the flat or raised mouthpiece and lift it out. Wipe the recessed channel it sits in with a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol, because that groove is what makes the mouthpiece feel sticky and stop seating cleanly. In our review this was one of the more common complaints from owners.

  3. Push the screen out: Feed a pipe cleaner down the vapor path from the mouthpiece end to pop the oven screen out of the bottom of the chamber. If the tube is clogged badly enough that the screen will not shift, stiffer wire will free it.

  4. Soak the small parts: Both mouthpieces, the oven screen and the concentrate insert can sit in isopropyl alcohol for thirty minutes to an hour. Warm soapy water works but is slower and leaves more behind. Rinse and dry everything fully before it goes back on.

  5. Keep the lids dry: PAX is explicit that neither the standard oven lid nor the half pack lid should ever be submerged in liquid. Clean both with a damp cotton swab only, working around the magnets and the rim.

  6. Floss the vapor path: Dip a fresh pipe cleaner in isopropyl and work it back and forth through the tube several times. Wipe the oven walls and the top of the body the same way, keeping alcohol away from the button and charging contacts.

  7. Dry, then burn off: Reassemble only once every part is dry, then run one full cycle at the highest temperature with an empty oven to clear any alcohol left in the path.

A full clean every five to ten loads keeps the draw open, and PAX suggests the routine every few uses. Screens are consumable and sold in threes, so swap one out once it stays dark after soaking. Keep the magnetic pads on the charging dock clean, and charge the device standing upright so oils do not creep toward the mouthpiece. Oven discoloration is permanent and does not affect heating.
