Plenty

The Plenty drives hot air through a stainless steel filling chamber and then straight into a coiled steel tube, and that spiral is where most of the residue collects. Vapor condenses inside the cooling coil where no brush will reach, so the coil, not the chamber, sets your cleaning schedule.

1. Let it cool. Unplug the unit and wait. The filling chamber and coil get very hot, and only the textured surface and handles are safe to touch right after a session.

2. Free the mouthpiece. Pull the mouthpiece and its tubing section off the top of the cooling coil with a gentle twist, then twist the tubing section off the mouthpiece.

3. Open the cap. Unscrew the filling chamber cap, pull the cooling coil out of it with a twist, and slide the lower tubing section off the coil. Push the upper screen out of the cap from above using the handle of the cleaning brush.

4. Split the chamber. Push the stainless steel filling chamber cylinder up and out of the plastic filling chamber housing, then push the lower screen upwards out of the cylinder.

5. Soak the coil. Stand the cooling coil in a glass, cover it completely with isopropyl alcohol, put a lid on and leave it overnight. Storz & Bickel say to repeat until the coil runs clean, then rinse it carefully with water.

6. Treat plastics and tubing differently. The cap, housing and mouthpiece should not sit in isopropyl for more than half an hour, and warm water with dishwashing liquid is the safer choice. The two silicone tubing sections get soapy water only.

7. Rinse and dry fully. Nothing goes back together damp, and no cleaning agent vapors should remain in the airpath before you plug in.

8. Reassemble in order. Drop the cylinder into the housing with its flattened positioning surfaces lined up and press until it latches, fit the lower screen from the top, and seat the upper screen properly in its groove in the cap. A screen outside its groove lets plant matter into the coil, where it can block the airway or be inhaled.

Frequency and wear parts

Brush the chamber and upper screen while still warm after each session and the full strip down can wait weeks. The Plenty ships with three spare 30 mm screens because they are consumables: swap one when it stays discolored or will not sit flat. Tubing sections are replaceable too and loosen with age. Avoid overtightening the cap onto the chamber, as the plastic thread wears and starts slipping, and treat the mains cord gently, since a failed cord is the usual reason an otherwise healthy Plenty dies.
