Puffco Peak Smart Rig

The Peak's ceramic bowl sits in an open atomizer under the carb cap, so oil that runs off the bowl walls creeps down into the atomizer jacket and eventually onto the gold contact pin that joins the atomizer to the base. Puffco calls that flooding, and it is what triggers the rainbow light error, so most Peak upkeep is about keeping that joint clean and keeping water away from the parts that cannot take it.

1. Swab the bowl after each session: Puffco's own instructions end every use with a cotton swab in the bowl. Doing it while the ceramic is still warm lifts reclaim before it hardens.

2. Break it down in order: lift the glass attachment off first, let the bowl cool, then unscrew the atomizer from the base. If the bowl will not come out of its jacket easily, leave it alone rather than forcing it.

3. Soak the glass and carb cap: both go into 99% isopropyl, then get rinsed with water and dried fully. Puffco specifies 99% because weaker alcohol carries water content it does not want near the device.

4. Soak the atomizer, but never rinse it: submerge it fully assembled in 99% isopropyl. Do not put it under water afterwards, as Puffco warns that water exposure can damage the ceramic. Let it air dry completely before it goes anywhere near power.

5. Clean the contacts: run an isopropyl swab over the gold connector pin in the base and the matching pin on the underside of the atomizer, plus the silicone collar around the air path.

6. Keep the base dry: it is the electronics and the 18350 cell, so it never gets soaked or opened.

7. Reassemble and reseat: screw the atomizer in with its jacket on, since the notches at the top hold the jacket in place. If rainbow lights continue, back thread half a turn counter clockwise, then tighten firmly.

Fill the glass to just above the air holes, never while it is on the base, and keep water out of the lower section. Puffco suggests a full clean roughly every 20 uses, or each time the battery dies. The atomizer is a wear part carrying only a one month warranty, so replace it when a clean, correctly seated one still errors. Charge with the supplied micro USB brick only, around 2.5 hours for the full 30 or so heat cycles, and power the Peak down between sessions because the battery drains while idle.
