Dynavap 2021 VonG

Vapor never touches wood on the VonG. A titanium liner runs the length of the midsection and the wooden sleeve rides on the outside of it, turning to eclipse the airport. The gap between sleeve and liner is where dust and resin work in and make that airflow adjustment stiff, while the tapered titanium mouthpiece collects water and condensate every time it goes into a 10mm or 14mm joint.

1. Separate the four parts: Slide the captive cap off, then pull the VonG Ti tip and the condenser out of the midsection. The wood sleeve, its liner and the two titanium crowns that retain it stay as one assembly, so do not try to prise those apart.

2. Set the wood aside before any solvent appears: DynaVap's instruction is blunt about not soaking the cap or any wood part. Isopropyl lifts the finish and dries the timber until it cracks. The liner means the wood never sees resin anyway, so a dry cloth is the whole job.

3. Take the condenser o-rings off: The smaller ring sits in the groove and the larger one sits flush with the end of the tube. Store both with the cap while you clean, since alcohol hardens them over time. The thicker rings on the tip are meant to stay put permanently.

4. Soak metal only: The tip and condenser take fifteen to thirty minutes in 90% or stronger isopropyl, or hot soapy water for longer. Push the CCD screen out from below with the condenser tube and soak it too, noting whether it sat in the low or high adjust-a-bowl position first. Swab the midsection bore with a cotton bud rather than dunking it, because of the wood it carries.

5. Floss, dry, rebuild: Run a pipe cleaner through the condenser until it comes out clean, rinse everything in hot water and dry it fully, since alcohol residue near a torch flame is a real hazard. Wet the rings with water or DynaWax before pressing them home.

Wood care and frequency

Feed the sleeve every month or two: work a little DynaWax in with your fingers, leave it an hour or two, then wipe off the excess. Coconut or mineral oil works if you have no wax. A sleeve seized solid has been freed by owners with an overnight soak in food safe cutting board oil, which beats forcing it. Brush the tip out after a few sessions, strip the device weekly if you use it daily, and dry the taper after water pipe use so moisture is not sitting against the crown.
