Boundless Terp Pen XL

Boundless Terp Pen XL Overview
The Terp Pen XL is a draw-activated vaporizer that is exclusively for concentrates. It's bigger than the original Terp Pen, with a slightly larger 320mAh battery that can keep you going for around ten sessions per charge. In addition, vaporization is attained via large user-replaceable ceramic coils that can last weeks when vaping quality concentrates. How do you turn the Boundless Terp Pen XL on?
There is no power button. Pull off the magnetic cap, inhale through the mouthpiece to fire the coil, then touch it to your concentrate and keep drawing until the dose is gone.
What do the LED colours mean on the Terp Pen XL?
The LED beside the charging port is both the voltage readout and the battery gauge. Tap three times near the port to cycle voltage, blue for 3.3v, green 3.7v and red 4.0v; tap twice for charge level, green for 100 to 66 percent, blue 65 to 33, red below. It holds solid red while charging.
Which coils fit the Boundless Terp Pen XL?
The XL takes its own larger coils, sold in two packs as ceramic wrapped in stainless steel wire or quartz in Clapton wire. They also fit the later Terp Pen Spectrum, but the original Terp Pen's smaller coil will not fit.
What is the cap on the Terp Pen XL for?
The magnetic cap covers the bare coil so it does not smear concentrate through a pocket, and a quartz storage compartment screws in below to carry a dose. An original Terp Pen cap will not fit the XL coil.
How many dabs do you get per charge?
Around ten sessions per charge is fair, and a recharge takes roughly 45 minutes. Because the sensor only fires while you draw, run time tracks pull length more than voltage setting.
How is the Terp Pen XL different from the original Terp Pen?
It is longer and thicker, 149mm by 16mm against 134mm by 13mm for the original Terp Pen, with a larger battery and coil, plus three voltage settings and a tap to check battery reading.
What warranty does the Boundless Terp Pen XL have?
The quick start guide packed with the pen states three years on the unit, 90 days on the coil. Boundless has since moved to a one year standard warranty but honours three years where the packaging states it. Coils carry no warranty.
Boundless Terp Pen XL Cleaning & Maintenance
The Terp Pen XL is dipped straight into concentrate with the coil left exposed, so residue collects in three predictable places: the large XL coil and the threads it screws into, the quartz bucket inside the magnetic cap if you carry material in it, and the inside of the tapered stainless steel mouthpiece. Boundless recommends stripping the pen down once a week, more often with heavy use.
-
Burn off first. Let the coil cool, unscrew the outer body sleeve so the air path is broken, then draw on the mouthpiece to fire the coil with nothing on it. This vaporizes leftover oil, so you wipe a dry surface instead of smearing a sticky one.
-
Break it into four parts. The XL comes apart into the mouthpiece, the outer body sleeve, the battery module and the coil. The sleeve screws off to reveal the battery casing, and the coil unscrews counter-clockwise from the module.
-
Wipe the internals. Use isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel or cotton swab around the coil threads, the battery casing and the inside of the sleeve. Keep liquid out of the micro USB port and off the coil contact on the battery module, which carries power to the heater.
-
Treat the coil gently. The wire wrapped ceramic coil cleans through the burn off and a light wipe rather than a soak. The included cleaning tool reaches the gaps around the coil base that a swab cannot.
-
Soak only the mouthpiece. Boundless allows the mouthpiece tip to sit in isopropyl for no more than 15 minutes, then rinse and dry it fully; warm water also works. The tapered tip drops into 14mm female joints, so rinse it out after any water piece use.
-
Cap and quartz bucket. A little isopropyl on a swab clears the film from the magnetic cap and its threaded quartz storage bucket. Dry both before the cap goes back over a coil.
-
Leave the outside alone. Boundless warns against isopropyl and alcohol wipes on the exterior body, which can damage the finish; a dry cloth is enough there. The pen must never be submerged, and water damage is not covered by the warranty.
-
Reassemble and clear the alcohol. Let every part air dry, rebuild the pen and take one empty draw before loading concentrate again.
Plan on a fresh coil every few months: they are consumables and carry no warranty. XL coils are larger than the original Terp Pen's, so the standard cap will not fit over them. If the XL stops holding a charge, unscrew the coil and leave it on the micro USB charger for at least four hours to reset it.
