Boundless CFX

Boundless CFX Overview

With 20-second heat-up and 80 watts of heating, the CFX from Boundless Technology is a portable powerhouse. While one of the older models in the Boundless line up it has become a more impressive option with time thanks to the price drops that can commonly be found, making this slightly older device an even more remarkable option as it merges just into the budget vaporizer price point.

Boundless CFX FAQs

How fast does the Boundless CFX heat up?

Boundless quotes 20 seconds or less. Its 80 watts heat the incoming air by convection and the ceramic chamber by conduction, and the CFX vibrates once it reaches your setting.

How do you turn the CFX on and change temperature?

Click the power button five times in a row. The arrows move in single degrees from 100F to 430F (40C to 220C), holding one jumps by ten and holding both for two seconds swaps Fahrenheit for Celsius.

Why does the CFX shut off mid session?

The 1.77 inch colour screen runs a 300 second duration timer, S for starting and F for finishing, and the CFX then sleeps. Hold the power button three seconds to wake it.

How much herb should you load into the CFX?

Boundless suggests 0.1 to 0.2 grams for a light session and no more than 0.5 grams in any Boundless unit, since packing tighter restricts airflow. The dry herb pod only fits with the mouthpiece screen assembly removed.

How does the Boundless CFX charge?

Two versions exist. Older ones pair micro USB with a DC fast charging port, four to four and a half hours against one to one and a half. Current stock uses USB-C and will not take the DC CFX Charger.

Can you still use concentrates in the CFX?

Older kits shipped a liquid and wax chamber, taking five drops of oil or wax smeared in the lid recess. Boundless no longer lists it in the box or sells a spare, and its warranty excludes concentrates loaded without one.

Does the CFX work with a water pipe?

Yes. The adapter Boundless shares between the CFX and CF replaces the stock mouthpiece and fits 10mm, 14mm and 18mm male joints plus 14mm and 18mm female ones. See our guide to vaping with a water pipe.

What warranty does the CFX come with?

One year from purchase, covering electronics, the ceramic chamber and structural integrity, with 30 days on the battery. Claims go through Boundless if you bought from its site, otherwise through your reseller.

Boundless CFX Cleaning & Maintenance

The CFX sits a wide ceramic bowl under an 80 watt heater and reaches temperature in roughly 20 seconds, so vapor hits the mouthpiece hot and drops its resin across a very short airpath. Nearly all of it collects in the perforated metal cap threaded into the base of the mouthpiece stem, which is why a CFX that has turned tight or tastes stale usually needs work on the mouthpiece rather than the chamber.

  1. Brush the bowl warm: Tip the spent load out as the session ends and sweep the supplied brush around the ceramic walls while they are still hot. Resin wipes away at that point and sets hard once the unit cools. Leave the oven screen at the base of the chamber seated: it either drops free or has to be levered out, and prying usually deforms it.

  2. Split the mouthpiece: Swing the stem outward and lift the top half away, then release the lower half with an anticlockwise twist. The metal screen cap unthreads from underneath that lower half. Grip it through a cloth or pliers if the threads have gummed together.

  3. Soak the steel, ration the plastic: The screen cap and other metal parts can sit in 90 percent or stronger isopropyl for as long as they need. Boundless permits the plastic mouthpiece pieces in alcohol as well, but keep them under about ten minutes, then rinse under warm water and dry them completely before reassembly.

  4. Lift the orange o-ring: The silicone ring on the mouthpiece base peels off with a fingernail or the tip of the stir tool. Wipe it or dip it briefly, rinse, and refit. Extended solvent soaks stiffen silicone and cost you the seal that stops draw leaking around the mouthpiece.

  5. Swab the chamber inverted: Hold the CFX upside down so nothing can run past the ceramic into the heater and battery, work a lightly dampened alcohol swab around the walls, then dry the surface with the clean end.

  6. Burn off before reloading: With everything dry and reassembled, run an empty session at the top of the range, 221C, and let it time out to clear solvent traces from the ceramic and the steel intake.

Treat the screen cap as a consumable. Its drilled holes clog faster than they clean, and Boundless sells mouthpiece screens in packs, so monthly replacement is reasonable on daily use. Keep alcohol off the display window and buttons, using only a barely damp cloth on the shell, and give the concentrate pod its own swab out after each use. A water pipe adapter collects far more condensate than the stock mouthpiece and wants its own hot water rinse.
