Boundless CFV FAQs

How should you draw on the CFV?

The CFV is full convection: the heater sits below the bowl and hot air passes up through the herb rather than roasting it on a hot wall. Boundless says a slow, steady inhale gives the biggest clouds, though the heater keeps up with shorter, harder pulls.

How much herb does the CFV chamber hold?

The stainless steel chamber takes up to 0.5 grams, and Boundless says to pack as little or as much as you like. No reducer or half bowl was made for it, so a smaller dose just means less herb, packed loosely.

Will the CFV water pipe adapter fit my glass?

It replaces the swivel mouthpiece, and Boundless lists it as fitting male 10mm, 14mm and 18mm and female 14mm and 18mm joints. It does not fit CFVs made before August 2018, the ones with a removable chamber and heat retention rings.

Can you replace the batteries in the Boundless CFV?

No. It runs on two internal 19350 cells Boundless says may not be removed. A full charge over micro USB takes two and a half to four hours and gives about six sessions.

How precise is the temperature control?

Each press of the up or down button moves a single degree, and holding it ramps faster. Hold both temperature buttons for a second to swap Fahrenheit and Celsius. Sleep protection cuts in at four minutes, so hold power for three seconds to resume.

How does the CFV compare to the CFC 2.0 and CFX?

The CFV is the full convection one, with a stainless steel chamber. The CFC 2.0 is smaller and conduction with a ceramic oven, and the CFX is hybrid, also ceramic, and ships with a concentrate pod. The CFV does not, so keep it to dry herb.

What warranty does the CFV carry?

Boundless honors three years where the packaging states it, the CFV's listed term, though its standard is now one year. Claims need photos of the fault, proof of purchase and the code from the original box; retailer purchases go through the retailer.

Boundless CFV Cleaning & Maintenance

The CFV is full convection, with the heater below and apart from the bowl, so vapour travels straight up through the chamber screen into the swivel mouthpiece. That is where residue lands first: the two stainless steel screens and the inside of the mouthpiece stem darken well before the bowl walls do. Herb spilled at the rim during loading is the other nuisance, working into the mouthpiece thread and stiffening the swivel.

  1. Empty the bowl straight after the session. Boundless asks you to clear spent herb immediately, before it hardens into a film. Tip the unit over and use the stir tool to lift anything pressed against the chamber screen. The CFV wants stirring every couple of draws anyway, so wipe that tool at the same time.

  2. Brush the bowl. The only chamber instruction Boundless gives is to run the included cleaning brush around the stainless steel bowl. Work the bristles into the base and the wall seam, then tip the debris out.

  3. Take the mouthpiece apart. It lifts off the top assembly and separates into the threaded screen assembly and the stem, and that assembly carries a silicone ring you can slide off. On earlier CFVs the bowl removal tool takes off the top of the bowl with its o-ring, the heat retention ring and the bowl screen. Later units have a fixed stainless steel bowl and no rings.

  4. Soak the metal and quartz parts only. Put the mouthpiece screen assembly and stem, the bowl screen and a quartz retention ring in 91 percent isopropyl until clean, then rinse in warm water and dry fully. Boundless is firm that alcohol must not sit on any part longer than ten minutes, as it marks the finish. Rosewood rings take warm soapy water instead, and they fade in flavour after a few dozen grams, so treat them as consumable.

  5. Keep alcohol off the body. Wipe the mouthpiece housing inside with an alcohol wipe, follow with warm water on a cloth, and keep moisture away from the air path below the chamber where the heater sits. Isopropyl on the outside of the device causes cosmetic damage the three year warranty will not cover.

  6. Replace screens rather than scrub them. The CFV ships with five spare chamber screens and five mouthpiece screens. A screen still dark after a soak is restricting the draw, so fit a fresh one.

Give the water pipe adapter the same alcohol and rinse treatment as the mouthpiece parts. The two internal 19350 cells cannot be replaced, so charge over micro USB for its full two and a half to four hours, never while vaping, and never overnight or on carpet.
