XMAX OONT Cleaning & Maintenance
The OONT loads from underneath, so residue ends up in three specific places: the ceramic oven behind the hinged oven cap, the slim metal filter that sits between the oven and the stem, and the bore of the glass mouthpiece that runs down through the body. The air path is isolated from the electronics, so everything sticky sits on a part you have to pull out.
-
Cool down first: XMAX asks that the OONT be switched off, unused for at least 30 minutes and completely cold. The ceramic oven has the heating element embedded in it and holds heat longer than the small body suggests.
-
Use the quick clean: open the oven cap underneath and push the glass mouthpiece down to eject the spent puck or the dosing capsule. Doing this after every bowl is what keeps the deeper cleans infrequent.
-
Strip the removable parts: pull the glass mouthpiece up out of the top of the body, then take the metal filter out through the bottom of the oven. Slide the o-ring off the filter and wipe it dry rather than soaking it, as solvent will shorten its life.
-
Soak the metal filter: the manual has you fill a small glass container with isopropyl alcohol and drop the filter in. Half an hour clears the mesh, and the included spiral brush shifts anything left in the slots. Rinse and dry it fully.
-
Clean the glass stem: run a cotton swab through the inside, then wipe it again with a damp paper towel, which is the sequence XMAX specifies. The stem is plain glass, so a longer alcohol soak is safe when the film gets heavy.
-
Swab the ceramic oven: brush it out first, then use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl or one of the four alcohol pads in the box. The manual forbids pouring or injecting liquid into the oven and forbids submerging the device. Work gently, the oven is not made to be scraped.
-
Burn off and reassemble: with everything dry, refit the o-ring and filter, drop the stem back in, close the oven cap and press down on the stem so the stack seats. XMAX recommends a burn off at the top preset for two minutes after cleaning to clear any remaining alcohol.
The OONT ships with two spare mesh screens and a spare o-ring; swap them once a soak no longer restores the draw. The 18500 cell is sealed inside, so battery care is about charging: use 5V/1A or less, and do not store the device flat, because XMAX warns that a cell allowed to fall below 2 percent may refuse to charge again.
