Sticky Brick Maxx

The Maxx sends a torch flame down a glass heat intake and pulls the hot air through the bowl and out a male glass stem into your water pipe, so resin builds at both ends of that path: inside the heat intake where the flame enters, and along the stem and dry mouthpiece where cooled vapour condenses. The hardwood body between them stays comparatively clean, which matters, because wood is the one part Sticky Brick Labs tells you to keep alcohol away from.

1. Twist the bricks apart and empty the bowl. Hold the base and turn the small brick to break the magnetic connection, then tip out the spent load. Brush the chamber walls and the screen sitting at its base after each session. Loading no higher than the inner ledge keeps material off that screen.

2. Take the glass out before cleaning anything. Lift the heat intake from the small brick, pull the 18.8mm or 14.4mm male stem out of the base along with the female dry mouthpiece if fitted, collecting o-rings as you go. The manual asks for glass and screens to be removed from the Brick rather than cleaned in place.

3. Soak glass, screens and the restrictor disc in isopropyl. These are the only parts allowed in alcohol. A few hours handles most of it, overnight for baked residue in the heat intake. Rinse in hot water and dry fully before anything goes back into wood.

4. Give wood a damp swab and nothing more. Sticky Brick Labs is direct about this: cotton swab, warm water, then dry thoroughly, and no isopropyl on wood at any point. That covers the body, the carb, the side air intake and the intake storage hole. The metal intake housing takes an alcohol swab provided none reaches the grain.

5. Wipe the o-rings, do not soak them. Warm water is enough. On reassembly, seat each o-ring into the wood first and push the glass in afterwards, the order the manual gives for the best seal.

6. Replace screens rather than scrub them. The Maxx ships with six stainless screens and Sticky Brick Labs sells them in packs of six. Lift a clogged one out with the included tweezers and press a fresh one flat into the bowl.

Condition the wood only with Sticky Brick Butter, applied thin and polished with the grain after a deep clean. The whip's glass connectors soak with the rest of the glass, while the silicone tubing is a stocked replacement part, so swap it once it stops cleaning up. Let the heat intake cool before handling it: the wood body carries a lifetime warranty, the glass only fifteen days.
