Dynavap The WoodWynd FAQs

What wood is the WoodWynd stem made from?

Ipe, a dense hardwood, held between two stainless steel crowns. It launched in Padauk in 2023, and a limited Blackwood run with a purple Helix tip has also been sold. Grain and coloration vary between stems.

Does the wooden body change how the WoodWynd feels?

The vapor path is titanium from the Helix tip to the mouthpiece, so the wood carries no vapor and conducts less heat than steel. The Helix is DynaVap's lightest titanium tip, just over three grams, so less heat reaches the stem.

How much herb does the Helix tip hold?

DynaVap lists a 0.1g bowl. Seating the stainless CCD in the upper groove halves that for microdosing, and the lower groove restores the full chamber. Its thicker walls are meant to even the roast.

How do you adjust airflow on the WoodWynd?

One oval airport is cut through the waist of the stem, where a finger naturally sits. Covering it tightens the draw, and it is the stem's only airflow control.

Can I use an induction heater instead of a torch?

Yes. DynaVap lists the YLL and Ispire Wand heaters as compatible, and only the cap and tip enter the heating chamber. With a torch, keep the flame on the cap, since a drifting flame marks wood.

Is the wood stem covered by the same warranty?

No. DynaVap covers device faults indefinitely but excludes wood and glass stems. The WoodWynd stem gets the 90 day satisfaction guarantee plus a limited six month warranty, because wood changes with care and conditions.

Which other DynaVap parts fit the WoodWynd?

Standard size tips and caps all fit, so a Low Temp or Armored cap swaps straight on. The stem takes an XL condenser, not a standard one, and at 109mm needs XL storage like the DynaStash XL.

Does the WoodWynd work with a water pipe?

The titanium mouthpiece seats snugly in a 10mm opening with no taper or adapter, while a 14mm joint takes DynaVap's fat mouthpiece. See our water pipe guide.

Dynavap The WoodWynd Cleaning & Maintenance

The WoodWynd wraps a hand finished Ipe stem around a vapor path that is titanium end to end, so residue never lands on the wood. It gathers in the Helix tip's side convection ports and on the stainless CCD behind them, while the oval airport cut through the waist of the stem is the one place airflow meets bare wood.

  1. Break it into five pieces. Cold, the stainless captive cap lifts off, the Helix tip pulls out of the stem, and the XL condenser and mouthpiece draw out of the other end. The mouthpiece unsnaps from the condenser, a metal to metal fit with no seal.

  2. Sort by material first. DynaVap's instruction is in capitals: do not soak the cap or any wood part. Set the stem aside with the cap, and let only the titanium tip, condenser and mouthpiece near isopropyl.

  3. Soak the titanium. Fifteen to thirty minutes in 90% or stronger isopropyl clears normal buildup, and hot soapy water works more slowly. Rinse and dry every piece fully, since a torch flame goes on the tip next.

  4. Clear the side ports and the screen. Run a pipe cleaner through the tip's convection holes, as a clogged set tightens the draw. Push the stainless CCD out from below with the condenser, noting which groove it sat in, the lower for the full bowl near 0.1g and the upper for the half bowl. The mouthpiece doubles as the tool that reseats it.

  5. Look for the o-rings on the mouthpiece. The WoodWynd runs the XL condenser it shares with the Omni and HyperDyn, which puts no rings on the condenser at all: the two high temp o-rings sit on the mouthpiece and grip inside the stem crown. Roll them off before soaking, wash them in soapy water, and wet them with water or DynaWax on refitting.

  6. Swab the cap, do not dunk it. Liquid caught behind the bimetallic discs kills the click, so use a cotton bud with alcohol or soapy water. A cap that does get wet needs a full day before it sees heat again.

  7. Wipe and feed the wood. A dry cloth on the stem and a bud around the airport is the whole job. Every month or two, rub a little DynaWax in with your fingers, leave it an hour or two, then buff off the excess so the Ipe does not dry and crack.

Brush the tip after a few sessions and strip the device weekly for daily use, monthly otherwise. Replace the CCD once airflow stays tight. Keep polishes and abrasive pads off the gold toned chamber, and dry the mouthpiece after water pipe use.
