DynaVap VonG X

The VonG X has more moving surfaces than most DynaVaps, so residue does more than restrict the draw here. Resin on the twist airport makes the mouthpiece stiff and vague, and a film on the condenser tube stops it sliding to the depth you set. The high mass tip also holds heat longer than an M tip, which bakes more onto the stainless CCD screen at the base of the bowl.

Quick Cleaning (After Each Session)

1. Let it cool first: Wait for the cooldown click and give the tip another minute before handling it.
2. Empty and brush the bowl: Tip the spent material out and sweep the chamber with a dry brush so the CCD does not load up.
3. Wipe the tapers: Run a cloth over the 10mm and 14mm tapers on the mouthpiece. Sticky tapers bind in glass joints.
4. Work the mouthpiece: Twist the airport open and closed a few times while things are still warm to stop resin setting in the thread.

Deeper Cleaning (Every Few Sessions)

1. Take it down to five pieces: Slide the Captive Cap off, pull the tip out of the titanium body, then draw the condenser and mouthpiece assembly out. If a joint has seized, warm it under the hot tap and twist rather than lever it.
2. Roll all four o-rings off: There are two on the tip and two on the condenser. Isopropyl dries them out, so take them off first, wash them in warm soapy water, and set them aside.
3. Soak the bare metal: The tip, body, condenser and mouthpiece take 15 to 30 minutes in 90 percent or stronger isopropyl, or hot water with dish soap. The Pink Slip in the tin works too, dropped into hot water with the parts for up to 30 minutes.
4. Never soak the cap: Swab the inside with a cotton bud instead. Water trapped in the crimped end ruins the cap the next time a flame lands on it, and DynaVap wants a full day of drying if it does get wet.
5. Floss the condenser: Push an alcohol wetted pipe cleaner through the tube until it comes out clean, then wipe the outside of the shaft. That outer surface is what sets the telescoping airflow positions.
6. Clear the mouthpiece airport: A cotton bud through the airport and around the twist collar restores the smooth rotation. This is the part that gums up first on a VonG X.
7. Rinse and dry completely: Hot water over every soaked part, then let it dry fully. Alcohol left inside the body is a fire risk once the torch comes out. Wet the o-rings or add a little DynaWax before refitting them.

Care Tips for Better Results

• Note which slot the CCD sits in before removing it. Low gives the full 0.1g bowl, high halves it for microdosing.
• Push the CCD out from underneath with the condenser tube, never with a sharp tool.
• Keep abrasive pads away from the DuraDyn finish. Torch soot on the cap lifts with metal polish or a baking soda paste.
• All metal DynaVap parts are dishwasher safe. The cap is the one exception.
• A medium grind keeps airflow predictable. See our grind guide.
• Replace the high temp o-rings once the tip wobbles or the condenser creeps mid draw. They are wear items and are not covered by the warranty.

The VonG X suits someone whose sessions happen next to a bong or bubbler. The body carries a 14mm taper at both ends and the mouthpiece steps through 10mm and 14mm, so it drops into most joints with nothing extra to buy, which is why it sits near the top of our water pipe compatible vaporizers list. The high mass stainless tip is the other reason to pick it over a cheaper model: it holds heat through a longer draw, so one cycle empties more of the bowl. Being battery free, it also works well for outdoor use, and the analog vaporizer approach means nothing to charge before you leave.

The trade-offs are the ones every DynaVap carries. You need a torch or induction heater, and you need to learn where to heat the cap, which our guide on how to use a DynaVap walks through. The extra tip mass takes slightly longer to come up to temperature than a lighter tip does, and it also means more heat travels into the body during back to back cycles.
