The oven and air path on the Black Widow are ceramic up to the stainless steel mouthpiece, and that mouthpiece is where most of the residue lands: it sits on top of the half gram chamber and carries two cooling channels the vapor has to pass through. Kingtons warns that filling past about two thirds of the chamber clogs the screens and makes the draw hard work, so an overpacked bowl is usually what starts the trouble.

1. Push the mouthpiece off sideways: Kingtons' manual says to remove it by pushing from the left or right rather than pulling straight up, because it is held on by a magnet. The rubber seal on its underside is what keeps air and smell inside the body, so check it is sitting flat when the piece goes back on.

2. Empty the oven with the packing tool: Kingtons' own walkthrough tips the spent load out of the ceramic chamber with the packing tool, then sweeps the walls with the supplied brush. The brush is the only chamber method the manual gives. Nothing in the instructions allows soaking the body, and the heater cannot be removed, so keep liquid out of the oven.

3. Brush the cooling channels: Those two channels are why the vapor does not scald your lips, and they gum up first. Kingtons says the same brush clears them, and the manual notes that airflow depends on the mouthpiece being free of debris.

4. Save the isopropyl for the mouthpiece: With the piece off the device, a damp paper towel deals with most of it, and isopropyl breaks down the waxy oil film, according to the shops that sell this mouthpiece as a spare part. Dry it fully before refitting, and keep alcohol away from the ceramic oven and the micro USB socket.

5. Swap screens rather than scrubbing them: Two spares and a pair of tweezers come in the box. Early reviews flagged the stock filter material as this device's weak point, so a screen that still draws tight after brushing is worth replacing.

The Black Widow shuts down five minutes after power on, which Kingtons describes as protection for the battery and the ceramic heating element, so any warm cycle to loosen residue has to fit inside that window. Charging over micro USB shows red and turns steady green when full, and the same lamp reads green above 26 percent and red below 25 percent in use. A lamp flashing red and green three times is a fault: unplug it and let it reach room temperature before trying again. The concentrate cup drops into the same chamber, so wipe it out separately rather than letting extract bake onto the ceramic.
