2-Con Overview

The 2-Con from End Game Labs is an interesting portable vaporizer that utilizes both conduction and convection heating. Furthermore, the 2-Con is one of the few portable ball vaporizers available on the market. However, it is a little different from traditional ball vapes. Independent heat controls are provided so that both the conduction and convection heaters can be tweaked to your preferences.

2-Con FAQs

How does the 2-Con's ruby bed heat your material?

Air drawn through the intake holes passes over the convection coil and its 330 rubies before reaching the bowl, so the rubies work as a heat store. It takes 40 to 60 seconds to heat, then a few priming draws before vapor builds.

What do the button presses and the two numbers on the screen mean?

Five rapid presses power it on, three start the convection heater, and holding the button runs the conduction spiral around the bowl. Two presses step through both temperatures and the timer, and either heater can be set to zero.

Can I vape the 2-Con while it charges?

No, plugging in drops it into charging mode. The cell is a removable 21700 rated 20A or higher, so an 18650 will not fit. Our review averaged around six sessions per charge, so a spare beats the USB-C port.

How much should I pack in the 2-Con?

The bowl is the lower half of the glass stem, and how deep you seat it sets the size, hence the up to a gram rating. Most owners run far less, since material above the conduction spiral only sees convection.

Is the 2-Con better with a water pipe?

Its stem carries a 14mm and 18mm adapter machined from 6061 aluminium that also braces it in the body. Our review found it harsh at higher temperatures used directly and much easier over water.

Which parts wear out, and where do I buy them now?

The 7 by 2cm sleeve insulating the heater chips easily, and without it the stopper drops through and the stem no longer sits securely. End Game Labs' own site is offline, so stockists like La Centrale Vapeur now supply wear packs, stems and rubies.

How does the 2-Con compare to the CAT?

The CAT is the full convection follow up: rubies on a replaceable coil, 10 to 30 seconds to heat, no conduction spiral and no second temperature. The 2-Con is slower, but it blends or isolates two heating styles.

2-Con Cleaning & Maintenance

Air enters the 2-Con through two intake holes beneath the removable side cover, climbs through a bed of 330 rubies and passes into the bowl formed by the lower half of the glass stem, leaving past five cooling balls below the mouthpiece. Resin settles inside that very thin borosilicate stem and on its small screens long before the ruby bed underneath looks dirty. In our review a cotton swab pulled a lot of black residue out of the mouthpiece of a brand new unit, so the first clean matters more here than usual.

  1. Strip and burn off before the first session: Wash the stem, the screens, the cooling balls and the mouthpiece, then run the device empty at high temperature on both heaters. Units tend to arrive dirty enough to justify it.

  2. Empty the bowl while it is warm: The magnetic side cover holds a small tool shaped for stirring and scooping the bowl out. Clearing it before the resin sets keeps the fine screen in the base of the bowl from blocking.

  3. Soak the stem, balls and screens: Pull the wooden drip tip off first. It stops the 8mm cooling balls escaping upward, and should be wiped rather than left in solvent. The borosilicate tube, the balls, the 1cm dome screen that retains them and the 1.2cm fine screen from the bowl can all sit in isopropyl until the glass runs clear, then be rinsed and dried fully.

  4. Keep liquid off the heaters: The conduction coil wraps the outside of the bowl and the convection coil sits buried in the rubies above a ceramic base. Brush debris out dry, and note the supplied brush is plastic, so let the device cool first. Wipe the aluminium body and the 14mm/18mm water pipe adapter with a barely damp swab.

  5. Clean or replace the rubies: With the cover off, the 330 rubies tip out for a soak. End Game Labs sells them by the 330 piece pack, and some owners run fewer or swap in zirconia to change the airflow.

  6. Watch the glass sleeve and the stem seal: A separate 7 by 2cm borosilicate tube insulates the heater and chips easily. Above it a stopper carries a 2cm silicone gasket that grips the stem, and a stem that slips on its own means that gasket is due. The official maintenance pack covers it along with spare screens, screws and both heater modules, which back out on two small Phillips screws.

  7. Battery care: The 21700 is removable and should be rated 20A or higher. Dry its contacts and the tray after any wet cleaning. The 2-Con will not run while charging, so a spare cell beats the USB-C port.
