The M 7 XL runs 108mm, so vapor condenses down a long XL condenser bore instead of coating a short stem. The finless M 7 tip has no ribs to trap soot outside, which leaves the six airflow notches inside the mouthpiece as the problem spot: resin there makes the condenser stick or slip.
-
Split it into four parts. Lift off the captive cap, pull the stainless M 7 tip, draw the condenser assembly from the textured stem, then separate the condenser from its mouthpiece. Hot water plus a twist and pull frees a seized joint.
-
Pull the o-rings off the mouthpiece. The XL differs from a standard M: the condenser tube is bare and the two high temp o-rings ride on the mouthpiece. Roll them off and wash them in warm soapy water, since isopropyl dries them out. The tip's pair stays put permanently.
-
Soak the stainless. Tip, condenser, mouthpiece and stem go into 90 percent or stronger isopropyl for 15 to 30 minutes, longer for heavy buildup. All metal, so DynaVap counts it dishwasher safe. The cap is not.
-
Run a pipe cleaner right through. The XL tube is far longer than a standard M condenser, so use a full length one and push it out the far end.
-
Clear the airflow notches. Swab inside the mouthpiece socket and around the flanged end of the condenser. That joint clicks together dry with no o-ring, so keep wax and oil out. Clean metal gives crisp steps from the tight first position to the open sixth.
-
Wash the cap by hand. Moisture trapped in the crimped end wrecks the bimetallic disc the next time you torch it. Swab the inside with soapy water, and if it does get wet, wait 24 hours before heating. Torch marks lift with metal polish or steel wool.
-
Leave the CCD in place. The stainless CCD stays in for a normal clean. Note its slot before moving it, since adjust-a-bowl works by pushing it up one position to halve the 0.1g chamber. Replace it once soaking stops restoring the draw.
-
Dry it, wax the rings, rebuild. Everything must be dry before reassembly. Wet the mouthpiece o-rings with DynaWax or a food grade oil, then reseat the condenser at your notch.
Swab the tip after sessions and strip it fully every week or two, monthly for light use. The mouthpiece tapers to 10mm and drops into a 10mm female water pipe joint, with the Fat Mouthpiece for 14mm glass. The XL length holds the cap clear of the glass, but the mouthpiece o-rings now seal against wet glass, so dry the bore before the next heat.
