The Flip Brick has almost no air path of its own, so residue has nowhere to travel. It condenses on the short glass heat intake sitting above the bowl and on the male joint that drops into your waterpipe, while the screens under the chamber catch the fine particulate. The wooden bricks pick up oils around the chamber mouth and along the faces where the magnets meet.
-
Break it down cold. Glass holds heat well after torching, so let the heat intake cool before handling it. Pivot the intake brick clear of the chamber, flip the WPA brick off its magnets, then withdraw the glass heat intake and the 14.4mm or 18.8mm male joint along with their o-rings.
-
Soak glass and metal only. Sticky Brick Labs says glass components and screens should be removed from the Brick and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol as needed. That covers the heat intake, both male joints, the screens and the 316 stainless restrictor disc. Rinse in warm water and dry them completely before they go back into the wood.
-
Wood gets warm water, nothing else. The manual is blunt about this: clean wood components gently with a cotton swab and warm water, dry thoroughly, and never use isopropyl on them. Work the chamber walls and the o-ring seats with the swab. The intake brick, WPA brick and chamber brick are never soaked or submerged. In our review we found pipe cleaners and a soft brush handle the chamber well, the same way you would treat a wooden pipe.
-
Condition with Sticky Brick Butter. Sticky Brick names its own butter as the only approved conditioner for the wood, so leave household oils and furniture polish alone. The bodies are hardwood milled in house and the glass is thick Simex, so both take handling well.
-
Swap screens rather than scrubbing them. The kit ships with six, and a clogged screen chokes the draw long before the rest of the unit needs attention.
-
O-rings first on reassembly. Push each o-ring into the wood, then seat the glass into it. Sticky Brick repeats this in both the manual and its support FAQ because it is what gives a proper seal.
-
Reset the restrictor disc. It goes into the flame intake brick flat side up with the cylinder pointing down toward the bowl and screen. Older units with a smaller hole take it inverted, cylinder pointing up into the intake.
Keep the flared side air intake unblocked, since it supplies the continuous airflow the unit needs. Wood bodies carry a lifetime warranty and glass carries fifteen days, with replacement parts always available.
