Frolic Thermal Extractor

The Frolic drives hot air through the load instead of heating it by contact, so the hard-anodized aluminium oven stays comparatively tidy and the residue ends up further along the path: on the two mesh screens, and inside the cooling unit where a 200mm airpath condenses oil out of the vapor. Draw resistance through that cooler is the first thing to change as it loads up.

1. Empty the oven after each session: Pull the cooler straight up off the body, then lift the spent load out with the supplied pin-tool. Limelight describes the oven as non-stick, so a pass with the included brush is usually all it wants.

2. Swab it while it is still warm: Wipe the oven with cotton or tissue right after a session. The oils lift easily then and can be kept as reclaim. Only ever refill a cold oven.

3. Wipe the oven with alcohol when it stains: Once the aluminium starts looking dirty, preheat the oven to 60°C, then wipe it out with cotton dipped in alcohol.

4. Strip the cooling unit: Pull the mouthpiece and the AFC ring off the cooler, rotate the aluminium locking wheel counter-clockwise and lift it away, then push the inner section out with the pin-tool through the mouthpiece hole, or through the lock wheel hole using the wheel itself.

5. Soak everything except the o-rings and the lock wheel: With the parts separated and the Viton o-rings pulled off using the removal tool in the box, soak them in warm water or isopropyl for around half an hour, rinse in hot water and let them dry. The airpath is PEEK, which handles solvent well, and an ultrasonic cleaner or the dishwasher is fine too. The anodized lock wheel and the o-rings stay out of all of it.

6. Change the screens once they clog: The fine screen goes in the oven and the coarse one in the cooler, with three of each supplied. Lift a spent oven screen from its edge with the o-ring tool and press the new one in concave side down, flat to the floor of the oven. The cooler screen pushes out through the opening at the top and seats into its groove either way up.

The cooling unit is the part worth staying ahead of, and every few weeks suits most people, sooner at the top of the temperature range.

Beyond cleaning, the 21700 cell comes out by unscrewing the battery cap at the top, and the base of the mouthpiece is shaped to turn that cap. Refit it positive side down, check the wrap is undamaged, and take the cell out altogether for long-term storage.
