MOAB

MOAB

MOAB Overview

The MOAB is Cannabis Hardware's cordless ball vape station. A 25mm axial coil sits inside a billet heat shield in the base, with the temperature controller and its LED display built into the same block of 6061 aluminium. You drop a ruby-filled flower diffuser or a quartz banger into the coil, let it soak, then lift it out and set it on your bowl, so nothing is tethered to your glass while you draw.

The current version is the X Pattern, a restyled housing with the same internals as earlier MOABs. The block measures 5.5 x 4 x 2.75 inches and is machined and assembled in Florida. Alongside the coil there are dedicated pockets for a banger and a ball vape pipe plus two deep tool slots for dab tools and cotton swabs. It is the cheaper of Cannabis Hardware's two wireless stations and sits below the Airstream in the range.

What Comes with the MOAB?

Cannabis Hardware sells the MOAB X Pattern station on its own. Flower diffusers, bangers, bowls and glass are all listed as separate purchases, and a water pipe is required. The MOAB Essentials kit is the bundled option and adds the following:

  • MOAB Wireless Ball Vape "X Pattern" station
  • VMAX cordless ball vape head with 3mm rubies and a cocobolo handle
  • Shovelhead titanium bowl with cocobolo handle
  • 18.8mm or 14mm male shovelhead post
  • 25mm quartz banger with airholes in 18.8mm or 14mm
  • Stainless dabber

For the version with its own vapor path built in, see the Airstream. If you want a cheaper wireless setup to compare against, the Ruby Wireless works the same way, and our best ball vaporizers list has the rest.

MOAB FAQs

How does the MOAB differ from the Airstream?

The MOAB is a heater station only, so the vapor goes into your own bowl and water pipe. The Airstream adds an internal vapor path between two 18.8mm pockets and can run a whip or glass tube on its own. The MOAB is also slightly shorter and around $50 cheaper.

Do I need a bong to use the MOAB?

Yes. Cannabis Hardware states plainly that a glass bong or water piece is required and is not included, even with the Essentials kit. You seat the flower diffuser in a shovelhead bowl and that connects to your glass.

What is the X Pattern version?

X Pattern is the current MOAB housing. Cannabis Hardware describes it as the same dependable MOAB function with a new visual treatment and a built-in billet heat shield around the coil. It works with the existing MOAB accessories and wireless flower diffusers.

Is there a separate PID controller?

No. The controller and its LED display are built into the station, so there is no external box. Cannabis Hardware notes the display colour can vary between units.

Can it be used for concentrates?

Yes. The 25mm coil takes a quartz banger as well as a flower diffuser, so you can heat the banger in the station, lift it out and dab on your rig without a torch.

What temperature should I set?

Cannabis Hardware puts the working range for its ruby ball vapes at 370°F to 700°F and advises against exceeding 700°F. Start low for flavour and work up for density, using our temperature guide as a reference.

How long does the head stay hot?

A wireless head runs off stored heat, so it cools as you use it and goes back on the coil between bowls. Cannabis Hardware asks for a three to five minute heat soak before the first draw and again after any temperature change.

What is covered by the warranty?

Cannabis Hardware gives one year of parts and labour cover on the MOAB station. Quartz, glass and other consumables are excluded, and the company warns against leaving the unit unattended while hot.

MOAB Cleaning & Maintenance

Most of the cleaning on a MOAB happens away from the station itself. The aluminium block only holds the coil and the pockets, so the parts that see vapor are the ruby-filled head, the bowl and your glass. Cannabis Hardware asks that the coil and its shield are kept clear of loose material, and that the ruby balls are soaked periodically.

Quick Cleaning (After Each Session)

  1. Return the head to the coil pocket: Park the hot diffuser or banger back in the station rather than on the desk, and leave it to cool.
  2. Empty the bowl while warm: Tip the spent flower out of the shovelhead bowl before it cools and sticks.
  3. Brush the bowl and screen: A quick pass with the cleaning brush keeps the screen open and the draw consistent.
  4. Wipe the top face: Clear any stray ground flower off the block so it does not fall into the coil pocket.

Deeper Cleaning (Every Few Sessions)

  1. Empty the ruby balls out of the head: Tip them into a small dish so nothing is lost, and note how full the chamber was.
  2. Soak the rubies in isopropyl alcohol: Cannabis Hardware recommends 90% or stronger for about 30 minutes, then a hot water rinse. Ruby is chemically resistant, so the alcohol will not damage it.
  3. Soak the screens, bowl and banger: The same soak works for the titanium bowl, its screens and any quartz, followed by a rinse.
  4. Dry everything fully before refilling: Reinstall the rubies only once they are completely dry, filling to just below the top of the chamber.
  5. Heat the empty head once: Bring it up to temperature with nothing loaded so any residual alcohol clears before your next bowl.

Care Tips for Better Results

  • Fill the head level with or just below the top of the chamber. Overfilling restricts airflow and underfilling loses thermal mass.
  • Use a fine grind. Cannabis Hardware is direct about this being the single biggest factor in vapor density, and our grind guide covers the detail.
  • Draw slowly. Fast draws pull air through the ruby bed before it can pick up heat.
  • Check the rubies for cracks or discolouration each time you soak them and replace any that look wrong.
  • Never leave the station powered on unattended, and keep it on a hard, flat, level surface.

Learn More About MOAB

The MOAB is aimed at someone who already owns glass and wants ball vape heat without a cable running to the bowl. Because the heater lives in the station and the ruby-filled head is what travels, the rig stays clear and you can pass the head around a group. That makes it a reasonable fit for group sessions and for anyone who found wired ball vaporizers awkward to route around a bong. The same coil takes a 25mm quartz banger, so it doubles as a cordless dab station rather than sitting idle when you switch to concentrates.

The cost of that convenience is heat. A wireless head only holds the charge it soaked up, so it cools between draws and needs to go back on the coil, which makes the MOAB less suited to long unbroken sessions than a wired system. You also need a water pipe and a bowl before it does anything, and the parts add up quickly at this end of the premium vaporizer market. If you would rather not buy glass at all, the Airstream has a vapor path built into the station instead, and our guide on dry herb vaping with a water pipe explains what the MOAB needs from your rig.
