How much water does the Hydrology9 need?
Cloudious9 says to fill the glass chamber between 40 and 70 percent. Past 70 percent you get blowback, with water pulled up through the mouthpiece, while too little water leaves higher resistance on the first draws.
Is the Hydrology9 really leak proof?
Cloudious9 calls it leak resistant, not sealed. A ball valve in the mouthpiece holds water in when the device is tilted or inverted, but blowing back into the chamber forces liquid out of the bottom, and repeated 360 degree spins can defeat the design.
What is the stir knob on the bottom for?
Twisting it turns a flower shaped stainless plate inside the porcelain chamber, pushing material up toward the heater for more even extraction. Pack the chamber, which holds around half a gram, with a little wiggle room so the stir can still move.
What do the Hydrology9 light colours mean?
Each button press steps through five temperature settings, and the flashing colour shows which one is heating: blue lowest, then yellow, orange, purple and red highest. Solid green means ready to inhale, solid light blue means standby.
How long is a Hydrology9 session?
The heater holds temperature for 120 seconds, then stands by for 60 seconds under the light blue glow, which Cloudious9 counts as one session. A first heat up takes up to 60 seconds, later ones 30 or less, and it powers off after 10 minutes idle.
Can I replace the battery in the Hydrology9?
Not on the original: the cell is sealed in the base, and Cloudious9 asks owners with battery trouble to contact support rather than open it. A charge runs roughly 12 to 15 sessions depending on the temperature you use.
What did the Hydrology9 NX change?
The Hydrology9 NX keeps the water filled glass body but swaps the five button presses for a six setting dial, adds a switchable concentrate atomizer, moves to hybrid convection heating, and makes the battery and air path removable.
Hydrology9 Cleaning & Maintenance
Standing water sits in the borosilicate body between sessions, so the Hydrology9 gets dirty in two places at once: residue in the water tunnel that carries vapor to the glass mouthpiece, and resin around the porcelain heating chamber, the interior air duct and the flower shaped stir plate under the bottom cover.

Rinse the water chamber after use: Twist the glass mouthpiece counter clockwise to lift it away with the aluminium anti-leak top cover, pour the old water out, part fill with clean water, cover the opening with your palm and shake. Cloudious9 lists this as quick maintenance. Refill to between 40 and 70 percent, since going past 70 sends water up through the mouthpiece.

Empty the oven while it is cool: Twist the bottom chamber cover counter clockwise, tap the spent load out, then work the short brush from the included kit over the air intake, the porcelain chamber and the interior air duct. The kit's shovel is shaped to scrape the chamber walls.

Clear the stir plate: The stainless plate you turn with the bottom knob mid session sits on the inside face of that cover, and its air holes clog with fines. The residue pick handles those and the perforated air duct cover.

Open the air duct: Unscrew the interior air duct cover with the supplied flathead screwdriver and run the long brush through it.

Split it for a deep clean: Hold both aluminium sections, twist the top counter clockwise and the bottom clockwise until the glass loosens, then unscrew the top body entirely. Wash the glass gently under running water. Cloudious9 recommends a microfiber cloth, or water and soap with a thorough dry, and never mentions isopropyl in its manual or FAQ. There is no burn-off step either, so keep solvent off the silicone rings and out of the base.

Do the water tunnel rarely: Take the silicone cover off the top of the tunnel, run the long brush through each passage, and pull the perforated ring for a more thorough job.

Rebuild without overtightening: If water seeps at the seam, very lightly twist the top aluminium clockwise and the bottom counter clockwise. Too much force cracks the glass. Snug the mouthpiece down against its silicone gasket and watch for drips while filling.
The base is shielded, not waterproof. Never blow back into the device, do not roll it through full turns, and if it leaks, towel it and let it air dry fully before charging. Store the glass separately and dry. The battery is sealed on the original, so contact support rather than opening the base. Spares run to the glass tube, mouthpiece and rotating stir cover.
