How does the Carta 2 detect the Intelli-Core atomizer?
The base identifies the atomizer through the gold contact pins in its port, then switches between concentrate and dry herb modes by itself. An incorrect atomizer message, or a 504 or 505 error, usually means residue on those pins, a part threaded atomizer, or a pushed down centre pin.
Can the Focus V Carta 2 vaporize dry herb?
Yes, with the Intelli-Core for Herb atomizer, which the rig detects automatically. Focus V suggests 380 to 420°F and 0.5 to 0.7 grams of medium grind packed loosely. The presets start at 425°F, so herb temperatures need a custom value set in the V Browser app. See our guide on flower temperatures.
What charger should I use with the Carta 2?
Focus V specifies USB-C at 5V 2A, the output of an ordinary phone brick. Fast chargers and anything above 5V 2A are warranty exclusions, as is charging for more than two hours. The sealed internal battery is best topped up near half rather than run flat.
Is the discontinued Carta 2 still supported?
Focus V sunset the Carta 2 in July 2025, so it is a secondhand buy now. Warranty claims, support and firmware updates continue, and Intelli-Core atomizers, carb caps, glass tops and the wireless charger remain on sale. The base carries a one year warranty, the atomizers six months.
What should I check before buying a used Carta 2?
The V Browser app ties each device to an owner account, and a rig still registered to someone else cannot be claimed until they release it. You request the release in the app and the previous owner confirms by email. Without app access you lose custom temperatures and firmware updates.
How much water goes in the Carta 2 glass top?
Focus V puts the line at the logo on the glass and no higher, and says never to fill it on the base, since overfilling is a listed warranty exclusion. Glass tops carry no warranty, but a defective one is replaced if you claim within seven days.
Focus V Carta 2 Cleaning & Maintenance
The Carta 2 collects residue in three places, and only one of them is obvious. Reclaim pools in the Intelli-Core cup, vapor condenses inside the glass top, and a thin film builds on the gold contact pins where the atomizer threads into the base. That last one is why a neglected Carta 2 starts reporting the wrong atomizer or heating inconsistently, because the base identifies and reads the atomizer through those pins.
-
Swab after every session. End the session with the V button instead of letting the rig idle at temperature, then wipe the atomizer cup with a dry cotton swab while it is still warm. Reclaim lifts away easily at that point and hardens once it cools.
-
Deep clean every 25 to 50 sessions. Focus V's support guide calls for 70 to 90 percent isopropyl, while the Carta 2 product page asks for 91 percent or higher, so any high strength bottle will do. Power down and let the whole rig cool before you start.
-
Glass top and carb cap. Pull the glass top straight up out of its silicone seat on the base. Add isopropyl, shake for 30 to 60 seconds, repeat if it is still hazy, then rinse under water until no alcohol smell remains. The carb cap soaks alongside it. Air dry both fully.
-
Intelli-Core atomizer. Unthread the lower cylinder counterclockwise. If it is seized, run a fifteen second session at the lowest temperature to soften the reclaim, then try again. Take the silicone sleeve off before soaking, give the atomizer five to ten minutes in isopropyl, and swab the cup interior and the gold pins. Never rinse the atomizer under water, as that damages the ceramic and the electrical connections. Air dry it for one to two hours before it goes back on.
-
Base port. Clean the connection port and the gold center pin with an isopropyl dampened swab, wipe the silicone opening the glass sits in, and allow at least a minute of drying. Thread the atomizer back in clockwise until snug, without overtightening.
Beyond cleaning
If the center pin in the base sits recessed and will not make contact, a toothpick can gently coax it back up. Recalibrate the atomizer at room temperature after a deep clean, though units made from January 2024 onward handle that themselves. Keep firmware current through the V Browser app, since heating faults are frequently software rather than grime. The battery is internal and sealed, so charge over USB-C at 5V 2A, and leave it near half charge rather than full or flat if the rig is going into storage.
