The ELEV8R has no battery, no airpath tubing and no electronics, so residue only ever collects in three places: inside the quartz heater, in the bowl of the borosilicate wand or the 14mm rig adapter, and on the screen under the herb. Scorching a bowl is the usual cause, and 7th Floor treats it as routine rather than a disaster, since the manual's advice after catching herb on fire is simply to clean with alcohol to get the taste back.

1. Cool it down and unclip it. Quartz holds heat long after the flame is off. Release the 19mm sick clip before separating the joint, and lift the heater with the tongs supplied in the kit instead of grabbing it.

2. Soak the glass and quartz. Elev8 says the all glass and quartz construction makes soaking components in isopropyl alcohol and light scrubbing easy, and specifies 91 percent or better. That covers the quartz heater, the wand or rig adapter and the ground glass joint reducer. The turbulence indents inside the heater bake resin on hardest, so give that piece the longest soak.

3. Rinse and dry fully before any flame. Alcohol left on quartz and a torch are a bad pairing. Run everything under hot water and let it dry completely before the next session.

4. Screens. Elev8's instruction for a soiled screen is to soak it in isopropyl for five to ten minutes, then hold it under hot water for a few minutes while massaging it gently. The wand and the rig adapter both take 20.8mm stainless screens from the yellow pack. The heater takes a smaller one, and Elev8's own listings disagree between the 14.8mm green pack and the 15.8mm blue, so check the size against your heater before ordering. Fit a fresh screen once the mesh stays dark or airflow tightens.

5. All glass wands need the pick. On the version with the fixed honeycomb glass screen there is nothing to lift out, so the outlet holes get poked clear with the marble pick from the kit or a thin wire before the wand goes in the alcohol.

6. Flavor disc. The 17mm ceramic disc works by holding concentrate in its pores, which is also why it loads up quickly. Soak it apart from the glass and let it dry right through.

7. Never heat the heater with anything on it. The manual warns that containment on the heater can bond to the quartz during heating and cause it to malfunction. Keep the flame at roughly 45 degrees, away from the sick clip, and spin the wand as you heat, which the manual ties directly to how long the heater lasts.
