How much does the telescopic chamber hold, and why is there no cap?
The stainless chamber slides out, takes the herb, and slides back in, so there is no cap or loading piece to lose. It holds roughly 0.15g, and The Hippie asks you to fill it loosely and avoid a fine grind.
Does The Hippie Pipe come with a torch, and where do I aim it?
No. The torch is sold separately, and The Hippie recommends its own double jet model, which it says heats the chamber in about 15 seconds. Keep the flame on the stainless chamber, away from the wooden handle and mouthpiece.
How do I know when it is hot enough?
The indicator slot changes from black to chrome at the intended heat level, your cue to take the torch away and draw gently. One heat gives a short window before the steel cools. A colour change that reads dull means residue in the slot, not a fault.
How often do the screens and rubber rings need changing?
The Hippie gives no interval and treats them as consumables: change the screen when airflow feels tight or the mesh looks worn. The set of two screens and four rubber rings fits the original pipe only, not the Pipe X.
What changed with the Pipe X?
It drops the colour changing indicator and has you aim at an X shaped slot while inhaling, pulling hot air through the herb rather than heating the steel first. Its chamber is larger, and mouthpieces fit both models but screens do not.
Can you use The Hippie Pipe with water?
Yes. The Hippie sells a glass bubbler and silicone adapter that fit the pipe, the Pipe X and its OM batteries. The glass is fragile, so pack it carefully. See our water pipe guide.
What does the two year warranty cover?
Two years from the original purchase date, covering defects in materials, design and workmanship. A claim needs the product and proof of purchase. Wear and tear, consumable spares and any device returned with plant material inside are excluded.
The Hippie Pipe Cleaning & Maintenance
The Hippie Pipe runs a stainless steel telescopic chamber straight into a short steel stem, so vapour travels barely any distance before it reaches your lips and nearly all the residue lands in two spots: the screen at the base of the chamber and the bore of the stem behind it. The colour changing indicator slot picks up tar as well, and at least one owner has reported the vent clogging to the point of being unusable. The wooden handle and the carbon fibre ring sit outside the air path, which is why they get treated differently to the steel.

Let the metal cool first. The Hippie asks you to allow the chamber to cool completely before emptying, cleaning or storing the pipe. The stainless mouthpiece pulls off by hand once it is cold.

Pull it into pieces. The Hippie's own cleaning video breaks the pipe down into the stainless chamber section, the stem, the mouthpiece, the screen with its rubber rings, and the wood and carbon body. There is no cap to lose because the telescopic chamber replaces it, but the screen and rings are tiny, so work over a cloth and away from an open drain.

Soak the steel in rubbing alcohol. In that video only the stainless parts go into the bowl, and they are left for at least an hour. Keep the wooden handle out of the alcohol entirely and wipe it down dry.

Wipe, then brush. Dry the parts off or leave them to air dry, then use the small brush that ships with the pipe to clear the chamber and the length of the stem. Between full strips, a cotton swab or pipe cleaner through the chamber is what The Hippie recommends.

Treat screens and rings as consumables. The replacement set for the original pipe is two stainless screens plus four rubber rings, and The Hippie gives no fixed interval: swap the screen whenever airflow feels tight or the mesh looks worn. That set fits the original pipe only, not the Pipe X.

Keep a spare mouthpiece. The stainless mouthpieces are sold in twos so one can be on the pipe while the other is soaking. Both fit without tools.

Clean the bubbler separately. Owners running the optional glass bubbler on its silicone adapter should pull the two apart once the session ends. The Hippie suggests 90 percent or higher isopropyl with coarse salt, shaken through, then a thorough warm water rinse.
Aim the torch at the metal chamber and away from the wooden handle and mouthpiece. Scorched wood is the one thing a clean will not fix.
