Atmos Jump

The Jump is one sealed pen: the anodized steel heating chamber and the lithium ion battery form a single unit, and the mouthpiece is the only part that comes off. Residue has nowhere to go except the chamber walls and the two filters stacked inside the mouthpiece, so the draw tightens up long before the flavour goes off.

1. Power down and let it cool: The manual is explicit that the Jump must be off and fully cooled before cleaning, and repeats it as a warning against handling the chamber or mouthpiece while hot.

2. Twist the mouthpiece off: It threads onto the chamber, so turn it counter clockwise and tap the spent herb out.

3. Brush the chamber dry: The spiral brush tool in the kit is meant for the chamber walls and for gently clearing the filter. Keep it dry work: the chamber cannot be separated from the battery, and Atmos warns against letting the Jump contact liquid of any kind, so no alcohol goes down it.

4. Take the mouthpiece apart: Unscrew the filter from the bottom of the mouthpiece, then lift out the additional ceramic filter behind it. Those two pieces are the usual cause of a restricted draw.

5. Soak the mouthpiece and mesh filter: Atmos puts the mouthpiece, the chamber connector and the mesh filter in a soapy water solution, with a soak of up to 12 hours. Dry them completely before reassembly.

6. Keep the ceramic filter away from liquid: Atmos describes the ceramic as porous and absorbent and advises against cleaning it wet. Clear its holes mechanically instead, with a paper clip or the brush tip. The Jump manual allows a swab and alcohol on the mouthpiece and filters generally, but the brand's cleaning notes rule liquid out for the ceramic specifically. Both filters are consumables and are meant to be replaced as they wear.

7. Run an empty cycle if airflow drops: Atmos's fix for a tight draw is to preheat the Jump with nothing loaded, let it cool fully, then pack again. Overfilling is the underlying cause, so break the herb by hand and load loosely rather than pressing it down with the packing tool.

8. Wipe the charging contacts: Clean the micro USB port at the base with a 90 percent alcohol solution on a swab and let it dry thoroughly. Charge from a laptop or a low output adapter, since Atmos warns that high output phone adapters shorten the cell's life.

Atmos publishes no interval for the Jump. With a 0.2g chamber and two filters in series, strip and brush the mouthpiece every few sessions and save the soak for when brushing stops helping.
