Arizer Extreme Q FAQs

Should I use the balloon or the whip on the Arizer Extreme Q?

Either. The three speed fan fills the bag and also assists a whip draw. Arizer suggests 180 to 200°C with higher fan speeds for smoother, more flavourful vapor, and 200 to 220°C with lower speeds for something thicker.

What does the Arizer Extreme Q remote control do?

It covers temperature in one degree steps, three programmable presets, fan speed and the session settings. If a new one seems dead, pull the clear plastic strip out of the battery holder. Arizer sells it separately.

How much should I load in the Extreme Q cyclone bowl?

Arizer puts the bowl at roughly 0.7 grams and suggests loading about 0.5 grams, treating grind as preference, even unground chunks. Smaller amounts are fine: take a draw or two, then switch the heat and fan off.

Why do the Extreme Q screens not stay put?

The flat screen sits in the cyclone bowl and the dome screen in the glass elbow adapter. Both are a titanium and stainless blend that form fits to the glass with heat and use, so a fresh one sits loose at first.

How long does the Arizer Extreme Q take to warm up?

Arizer's desktop chart puts the ceramic element at around 100 seconds, but the glass is still cold then, so give it another minute. Run it empty at 220°C for five to ten minutes before the first session.

What does the XQ2 change from the Extreme Q?

An isolated air path with a replaceable filter, a quicker warm up, multi colour LEDs in place of the blue base light, an optional delay start, and bowls holding up to 1.2 grams. Most glass and the power adapter carry over to the XQ2.

What does the Arizer Extreme Q warranty cover?

Lifetime on the heating element, plus a limited three year warranty on defects in materials or workmanship. Glass is excluded, nothing needs registering, just keep dated proof of purchase, and return shipping is your cost.

Arizer Extreme Q Cleaning & Maintenance

The Extreme Q is pure convection, so the glass Cyclone Bowl sitting on the glass heater cover stays cleaner than the parts downstream of it. Residue collects where vapor cools: the dome screen in the glass elbow adapter, the inside of the silicone whip, and the flat screen at the base of the bowl.

  1. Let the glass cool, then lift the bowl off: rock the Cyclone Bowl back and forth to free it from the heater cover rather than twisting it. Set hot glass down on metal or another heat safe surface, never on wood, fabric or plastic.

  2. Brush while things are still warm: a quick pass through the bowl and the glass elbow adapter with a soft brush after a session removes most residue before it hardens, and it means the full soak comes around far less often.

  3. Take the screens out: push the flat screen up from underneath the Cyclone Bowl with a cotton bud, and lift the dome screen out of the elbow adapter. Arizer ships a spare of each in the box, and screen packs hold both types.

  4. Soak the glass in isopropyl: the borosilicate parts, meaning the Cyclone Bowl, elbow adapter, mini whip, whip mouthpieces and the frosted balloon mouthpiece, all take a 20 to 30 minute soak in 90 percent or higher isopropyl. Scrub stubborn spots with a pipe cleaner, rinse in hot water and dry fully. Do not run cold water over glass that is still hot.

  5. Wash the whip with water, not alcohol: the 3 foot silicone whip carries vapor straight through, so it films up first. Soak it in hot water, wash it with dish soap, run a pipe cleaner along its length, then air dry it completely. Replace it once it stays cloudy.

  6. Treat the balloon as a consumable: clean the connector cap, o-ring and glass mouthpiece, and swap the bag itself after a handful of sessions. Replacement bags are cheap and oven bags work in a pinch.

  7. Wipe the base, never soak it: a damp cloth on the housing and an isopropyl dampened cotton bud around the rim of the heater cover is enough. Keep liquid out of the heater well, where the ceramic element and fan sit.

Arizer's own cue for maintenance is fill time. If a balloon takes longer than 2 to 3 minutes, clean or replace the dome screen and the bag. Glass parts are excluded from the 3 year warranty, so handle the heater cover carefully during reassembly, and only put the unit back together once everything is dry.
